Decathlon is a French sporting goods retailer that designs, manufactures, and sells technical products for sports enthusiasts. It sells its products through its stores, as well its online portals in France and internationally. The company was founded in 1976 and is headquartered in Villeneuve d’Ascq, France. In Italy from 1993, Decathlon owns 117 stores.
Decathlon was looking for a structured solution to manage real estate contracts, both from a technical and accountancy point of view. The existing process flow was based on Excel files, partially shared between the finance and legal departments. Indeed, it was not able to support anymore the company’s increasing needs. The invoice check and the comparison with the contract details was managed without a structured approach, becoming a high time consuming activity. Moreover, the lack of an economic bill book by contract, automatically updated, made difficult to define the accruals detail. Akeron demonstrated the solution several times to the finance and legal offices, during on-site meetings and marketing events. The key users really appreciated the out-of-the-box functionalities that completely covered their requirements, the embedded reporting tool and the ability to set up dimension based on their needs.
Decathlon required a solution that manages contract’s change status such us renewal, fee adjustment, termination …, with embedded accounting functionalities such us invoices collection, payments and accruals calculation. Moreover, Decathlon needed a tool that supported the planning process to perform budget and forecasting analysis. Another key point was the ability to collect technical and legal details, useful to create reports and to define KPIs. The HQ in France may impose to the subsidiaries to provide all the details needed to support the IFRS16 requirements. Akeron RE proved to completelly fit also this prerequisite.
